We Love Donations! (We need them in fact)
One of the greatest things about the comic book community is its generosity, and this week we experienced that firsthand. We’d like to send a huge thank-you to Joey Lopez for donating an incredible 600 Marvel and DC comic books to the Superliterate Project! Donations like this are exactly what make our Comic Book Culture Shop possible and help us keep thousands of great stories circulating instead of sitting forgotten in boxes.
Every comic Joey donated represents another opportunity for someone to discover a new favorite hero, experience the joy of reading, or begin a lifelong hobby. Because our mission is literacy through comics, these donations have an impact far beyond the books themselves. Affordable comics encourage curious readers, reluctant readers, young collectors, and lifelong fans alike to keep turning pages. His generosity will help countless people enjoy amazing stories while directly supporting the Superliterate Project’s literacy efforts. The monies generated from the shop is going to bringing Free Comic Book Day to communities that don’t have a participating store. Our first effort will be the High Desert and adding more as our volunteer network grows. Our work with the foster care system, group homes, and youth detention centers are still open to collaboration and we need to expand this as well. So yeah, let’s round up some comics!
If Joey’s donation inspires you to thin out your own collection, we’d love to hear from you. Comic books, graphic novels, action figures, and other comic culture collectibles are always appreciated. Donations can be mailed to Superliterate Project, 5574 Bronco Road, #487, Pioneertown, CA 92268. If your collection is too large to ship, contact us and we’ll see if we can arrange pickup, or you can drop it off at our Comic Book Culture Shop at 58000 Twentynine Palms Highway, Yucca Valley, CA, next to Stater Bros. near Tractor Supply. Together, one long box at a time, we’re helping create more readers—and changing lives through comics.
