Donate if at all possible

Every penny will go towards creating sharing events that bring comics to kids that can really benefit from them. It is our hopes to create a reading room and teaching space soon. We will be launching a kickstarter to begin this process. We can use all the help you can provide. This will be so good for so many, and really, so incredibly cool to do.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Our goal with the SuperLiterate Project is to work with the at-risk kids in foster care and homeless shelters and give them the help they need to improve their literacy, strengthen their cognitive resources and provide mentoring that can help them straighten up and fly right. Their current environment is so harsh it often leads to anti-social behavior and in many cases crime and imprisonment.

Why am I here?

This was cosmically brought to your attention as you are considered to be a valuable and active member of the comic book community. Our work with the at-risk teens, that quite frankly, are unable to buy comic books at today's prices will be extremely valuable in helping them become adults that can be gainfully employed. As a result of the interests they will have developed here, they quite possibly may become the next generation of comic book collectors.

Do you need space?

Yes. As it is with many such organizations, we are propelled primarily with the goodwill of others.  This can do a lot of good, but if we take it a step further and consolidate our efforts in a permanent space, much more good can be done.  A bit of stability will be much more nurturing to the young adults we work with and the moving back and forth of the tools we work with takes up a lot of time and energy.  Time and energy that would be much better spent on our efforts.

Do you need help?

The SuperLiterate Project is a 501 c3 non-profit organization that provides literacy and life skill training for the challenged youth of Los Angeles, using comic books and graphic novels. We are certain that our efficiency and growth will be dramatically improved with a permanent space for our efforts.  It is our current endeavor to discover a means to acquire funding.

Are there really comic book collections out there that would be better used as teaching tools?  Wouldn't it be better to seal them up in a vault?

Yeeeeeeeeeh.  About that.  When moving from San Diego to Los Angeles, we had a collection of over 5,000 comic books that we got about a dime each for.  There are tons of comics with extremely large print runs that aren't even worth that.  So, yes, they are much more valuable as a teaching tool.  We are here to help you actually GET some value- by giving you a reasonable price as a tax-deductible donation and the handy karma points.
